Welcome to Alderman Knight School
Alderman Knight is a highly successful and well-established special school in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, just off Junction 9 of the M5. We cater for pupils aged 7 to 19 with moderate and additional learning difficulties, complex needs, and Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). While many of our pupils come from the local area, we also welcome pupils from across Gloucestershire and several neighbouring authorities.
We’re incredibly proud to have been rated ‘Outstanding’ in our last four Ofsted inspections, most recently in April 2024. The report praised our warm, calm and purposeful environment, our high expectations, and the exceptional progress made by our pupils.
Alderman Knight is more than just a school—it’s a community. Visitors often comment on the enthusiasm of our pupils and the strong sense of care and belonging throughout the school. One visitor recently said:
“Being in your school reminded me why I became a teacher. I was deeply moved by the enthusiasm your pupils have for learning.”
We currently have 242 pupils across KS2 to KS5, supported by a skilled and dedicated team of over 100 staff. Our curriculum mirrors the National Curriculum, enhanced with a strong focus on communication, interaction, and personal development. In secondary, pupils are taught by subject specialists and access high-quality facilities including a life-skills flat, sensory room, outdoor learning areas, and specialist classrooms. Many pupils achieve GCSEs and other accreditations, supporting positive transitions into further education, training, or employment.
Each week, we publish our ‘Celebratory News’, where tutor groups share highlights from their learning journeys—offering a great insight into the rich, varied experiences at Alderman Knight. We also host open days and virtual information sessions for parents and carers throughout the year.
We hope this gives you a sense of what makes Alderman Knight School such a special place.
